Join the Living Seas Team for Ocean Origami, and learn how to make your very own Blue Whale. The best part? This one is pocket sized!

Origami is, by definition, nice and simple. You probably already have everything you need lying around the house!

What will I need?

To make your Origami Blue Whale, you will need:

  • 1 x piece of card or paper.
  • 1 x pen or pencil.

Please note: if you are using coloured paper/card, you will want to begin with the coloured side facing downwards.

1) Fold your piece of paper in half diagonally once, and then twice. Then reopen these folds, leaving your original diamond.

2) Bring the top corner to the central line of your square, and fold along the middle line.

3) Fold the remaining paper on the top half of your diamond into the centre, again folding along the middle line.

4) Push your finger into the pocket along the crease you have just made, and bring the paper across.

5) Move the triangle you have just made across to the opposite side of your diamond.

6) Fold your triangle in half along the middle line. This will make your whales pectoral fin!

7) Next, fold the bottom half of your design up towards the middle line. This should be done on the opposite side of your design.

8) From the middle of your design, fold your excess paper back. Again, this should be done on the opposite side of your design.

10) Fold the front and back pointed sections of your design backwards (i.e. behind the design) to flatten the front of your whales head, and to make a tail.
